The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (‘ZATCA’) has re-launched the cancellation of fines and exemption of financial penalties imposed on its taxpayers for a period of six months, starting from 1st of June 2022. This cancellation initiative will come to an end on 30th Nov 2022, due to impact resulting from Covid-19 pandemic on Businesses.
According to tax authorities (as per guidelines), the cancellation of fines, under exemption decision includes the following:
In order to get full benefits or eligible from exemption initiative, the authority has clearly stated below requirements which includes,
It is necessary to register for VAT for all non-registered individuals
Submit all due returns that have not been submitted previously
Disclosure of all taxes that are not clearly disclosed earlier
Payment of full tax debt according to the ZATCA approved installment plan
The authority also confirmed that the current initiatives does not include the following:
Tax evasion violations
Fines paid before initiative effective date
Late payment fines related to tax included in the installment payment that is due after the deadline of 30th Nov 2022.

Please note that above exemption is a goodwill gesture of Zatca to Businesses during pandemic times. However, this does not exclude the fact that the business should be compliant with e-invoicing not only for Phase I but also for Phase II which is not far as the deadline of Jan.2023 is approaching soon.
